When planning what to see in Isla del Sol, Bolivia, it is important to remember that you are in the heart of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world at 3,810 meters or 12,497 feet. Due to its rich natural influence and the nearby Andes Mountains, the region played an important role in the development of the Inca civilization. Ecolodge La Estancia offers an array of tours and activities that will offer a fascinating glimpse of the lifestyle, culture and heritage of the local Aymaras. As you walk along the lodge’s surrounding paths and admire the landscapes, you’ll be transported to ancient times.
hike in the surroundings
There are small hikes around the Ecolodge La Estancia such as the visit to the Pallacasa viewpoint located approximately 30 minutes on a walk with a slight slope of the hotel (this visit is recommended mainly for sunset) or short walks to the town of Yumani or the location of La Estancia.
visit our neighbours
Doña Asunta and don Jesús have been our neighbors for many years. Through a visit to their house, a 5 minute-walk from the Ecolodge La Estancia, we can learn more about their life and their family. The small house, one of the last old stone houses in the area, also has a small patio where the family will welcome us to tell us about the life of a humble family on the Island of the Sun. They will also share the legacy left behind by Asunta’s mother, both in terms of the oral history as well as for all the artifacts and utensils that we will find in their house (fishing and agriculture artifacts, local cuisine utensils and clothing).
